ATTENTION ALL VETERANS AND RELATIVES OF VETERANS

If you have served your country in the Armed Forces, you may be able to join the American Legion.  If you are related to a veteran, you can probably  join the American Legion Auxiliary or the Sons of the American Legion.  We need to strengthen our membership to help face the many challenges to the veterans who served our country.
We are also involved in many other things, such as scholarships,  educational programs, blood drives, the Gifts for Yanks program, and  other worthwhile projects.  We are a non-profit organization and much of our spending directly benefits our own community and neighborhood.

Post 484, pictured at the right, has nearly 400 members.  The post sponsors or partcipates in many community-oriented activities.  The legion building has historic significance, as the part of the building at the left was once a train station.  The right side of the building is an addition, and it serves as our meeting hall.  Legion Auxiliary Unit 484 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 484 also use the building.  The hall is  also available for rental.

Lou Dimmerman, 2nd Vice Commander, Department of Ohio (and member of Post 484)

Thanks to a half-million dollar check from The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes to the national headquarters of The American Legion, Commander Bill Harris presented a $500 check to a local disabled veteran, Jonathon Seaman (Army) during a visit at American Legion Post 484, Mt. Washington, Ohio.

“It is with sincere thanks that we present this grant today to a fellow military veteran who served our country with honor and pride,” Bill said. ”We present this on behalf of your fellow veterans and a grateful nation.”

“These grants are just a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices made by so many of America’s men and women in uniform,” said Thomas J. Palma, general manager of the Coalition.

“This is a perfect partnership – the Coalition’s generosity teamed with The American Legion’s “Heroes to Hometowns” program.” “Our members stand ready to assist with veterans and their families along with community members of our local Heroes to Hometowns team in providing a vast array of assistance to ease their return to a productive civilian life.”

It is not the first time that the two organizations have teamed up to award grants to disabled veterans. The American Legion distributed checks for the Coalition in 2005.

Nagel Middle School Staff Recognized for Veterans Program

Nagel Middle School’s Jodie McKinley, Media Specialist and Julie Sims, Counselor, organized the Veterans Day Ceremony at Nagel Middle School. Several legionnaires were invited to take part in this program and many of the Veterans were from American Legion Post 484. It was an honor and pleasure for Post 484 to be associated with this program.

Jodie McKinley and Julie Sims have continued to organize this program for nine years and Post 484 believed it was time these educators should be recognized for promoting Americanism to the students of Nagel Middle School and remembering the Veterans of our community.

During a student assembly, a certificate of Appreciation and gift certificate was presented to Mrs. McKinley to say “thank you” from Post 484. Due to family illness, Mrs. Sims could not be present, so the awards were given to Principal Natasha Adams.

It is Veterans Day Ceremonies like this which makes the American Veterans of all military conflicts feel someone remembers their service to their country. So a special “thank you” to the administration and staff of the Nagel Middle School.
